Winter Yosemite Valley is like no place else. The feeling of solitude, quite difficult to
experience at any other time of the year, is finally at hand, and the mystic air seems to
bear countless stories to tell. The snow-covered granites will speak in soft voices, and
the pines will stand still through the stream of mist. An avalanche will occasionally break
the utter silence of this sublime world, reminding of the poised, subdued forces of nature.
